A professional landscape photographer

Artist’s Statement

My photography is a quiet conversation with the land — a tracing of textures from the hush of woodlands to the vast, breathing silences of mountains, frozen plains, and distant seas. I am drawn to the closeness of trees heavy with frost, just as I am to the boundless places where earth, water, and sky dissolve into one another.

I seek not the likeness of a landscape, but its memory — the way it holds weather, light, and longing. Whether standing deep among ancient trunks, gazing over snowfields, or listening to the slow pull of the ocean’s tide, I am guided by a search for stillness, for atmosphere, for something timeless and unseen.

In both colour and monochrome, I follow the quiet language of place. Soft light, muted tones, and careful compositions allow the land to speak in whispers rather than declarations. I am drawn to moments of uncertainty — where mist folds into valleys, where mountains fade into cloud, where waves blur into the open horizon, where the world seems to pause between breath and memory.

Patience shapes my practice. Often it is not the dramatic vista that holds me, but the fragile meeting of light and form — the sweep of a winter shore, the curve of a ridge half-lost to mist, the faint rhythm of trees dissolving into fog, the glint of salt spray along a forgotten coast.

Through these photographs, I hope to offer not simply views, but spaces for reflection — landscapes that cradle silence, that remember time, and that reach, quietly, across distance and memory.

Philosophy

I believe landscape photography is as much an act of listening as it is of seeing.

It requires patience — waiting not just for the right light, but for the right feeling. In my work, I seek the moments where the land and sea speak softly: a bend of trees in mist, a broken fence reclaimed by grass, a scattering of snow over open ground, the slow retreat of a wave along a forgotten shore. These moments are fleeting, but they carry weight.

Photography, for me, is not about chasing grand views. It is about standing still, paying attention, and honouring the subtle conversations between time, weather, and place. Whether on a windswept headland or among frost-lit forests, my images are shaped as much by quiet observation as they are by personal emotion, reflecting the belief that landscapes — and seascapes — are not just physical spaces, but emotional ones too.

About

My work is shaped by both practice and partnership. I am a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS), a recognition of my commitment to the art and craft of photography. As a Pro-Partner for Benro and Kase Filters, and a Brand Ambassador for Shimoda Designs, I collaborate with those who value thoughtful craftsmanship and creative exploration.

I am also the co-founder of aspect2i, a landscape photography tour and workshop provider, where I share my passion for patient, attentive photography with others. As an educator and author, I am committed to helping photographers move beyond technique — towards a deeper, more personal connection with the landscape.

Through all these roles, my aim remains the same: to encourage a slower, more mindful way of seeing, where photography becomes a way not just to record the world, but to experience it more deeply.
